Project Description

Northside Square is the renovation and adaptive reuse of Northside High School into a dynamic, multi-purpose development. The redeveloped school building will become a reimagined community asset that will serve as a welcoming gathering place and offer amenities not currently available in the neighborhood.

The redevelopment of Northside is part of a comprehensive redevelopment effort of the Klondike community, Moving Klondike Forward. The goal of the redevelopment effort in North Memphis is to stabilize the Klondike neighborhood over a 20-year period into an inclusive neighborhood of choice.

Northside Square will serve as a community hub complete with various services and amenities, including comprehensive health care, workforce development, literacy advocacy, technical skills training, athletic, fitness, and performing and visual arts opportunities. The proposed spaces include shared community amenities such as an upgraded gymnasium and performing arts space as well as a welcoming plaza, renovated courtyard, office space, retail space, and affordable housing units.

The Northside property sits on a 24-acre campus that includes a public library, community center, city park, aquatics center and the Klondike Elementary School building. The team collaborated with community leaders, Northside alumni, stakeholders, and the City of Memphis to reimagine the space into a dynamic neighborhood asset that complements the city’s amenities. Construction for the project is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2023, and the building is scheduled to be completed in early 2025.
