Porter Jr. Hi.

The adaptive reuse and revitalization of the former MLK Student Transition Academy and Porter Jr. High is underway. The new development, coined Porter Jr. Hi., will be anchored by the South City Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) operated by Porter- Leath. The ECEC will be the first phase of the mixed-use development with construction starting this summer and the center opening in the summer of 2025. The ECEC will be complemented by other dynamic tenants- Girls Inc. of Memphis and the South City and Cultural Arts Museum. This transformative project is an integral part of the South City Choice Neighborhood Initiative, made possible through collaborative efforts with the Memphis Housing Authority, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the City of Memphis Division of Housing and Community Development. Funding sources include federal congressional appropriations, local public funds, New Market Tax Credit Equity, and philanthropic funds.
